This elegant French farm table is an original design I built for the Rarely Journal! I wanted to build something original, brand new and just how I envisioned it without any limiting factors. I selected the widest planks of the oldest white oak I could find. With a super heavy 2” top, at 9’ long and 42” wide, I wanted a base that would balance that strength with elegance and movement. I wanted the joinery and skill to create strength, rather than just bigger and bigger pieces.
From hand sketched curved bases and feet to perfectly fit mortises and tenon joinery, this base turned out more beautiful than I could imagine. Proportions and elegant curves and clean joinery with no clutter, this table is beautiful from every angle, including from underneath. Oak pegged breadboards allow for seasonal movement and finished in natural smoke for an effortless aged natural look and silk to the hand finish.
